BARREL TREATMENT SYSTEMS

The understanding and popularity of barrel treatment systems have grown in the past couple of years.  As there is a better understanding of how barrels are made and the issues that can arise in the manufacturing process of a barrel and the need for barrel treatment becomes clearer. We have seen some wild ideas and claims come and go in the past 18 years and we only offer treatment systems that work and make a measurable difference.

ARIZONA AMMUNITION, LLC.® has been manufacturing NECO and David Tubb type loaded barrel treatment ammunition for 16 years with full success.  We provide a full treatment service at our shop OR you can do the treatment yourself.  We feel it is important to talk directly with us on your barrel treatment needs and plans.  It is possible to use the wrong treatment and not be successful in your efforts or you could actually damage your firearm.

One question we will ask is if the barrel you want to treat with either the NECO or the Tubb systems is custom or factory.  Generally a custom barrel is hand lapped by the gunsmith building the barrel.  Generally the barrel will not benefit from either treatment system.  But, it is possible, depending on the condition of the barrel, to improve it. Factory barrels are generally not hand lapped and will benefit from the NECO or Tubb treatment system.  In some cases with custom barrels using the NECO or Tubb system will void the warranty too.  Any barrel, custom or factory, can be CRYO treated without any risk of warranty issues.  Call us to be sure.

We have added the 300 Below Cryo treatment and the new barrel hardening system (Salt Bath Nitriding) that we feel are excellent treatment systems.  We will have more on both of these soon.  Call us if you have questions.

In 2014-15 we have several treatment systems to chose from again;  They are;

1.NECO PRESSURE LAPPING SYSTEM (loaded ammunition)

2. SUPERIOR SHOOTING SYSTEMS (David Tubb) Final Finish and Throat Maintenance Systems (loaded ammunition)

3. 300 Below Cryo Treatment for the barrel and receiver.

4. Barrel hardening treatment.

1. NECO PRESSURE LAPPING LOADED AMMUNITION

ARIZONA AMMUNITION, LLC.® is the only manufacturer in the world of the famous NECO pressure lapping ammunition. This ammunition is intended to help solve accuracy problems in factory and service rifles. Those type rifles that are experiencing extremely poor accuracy in a rifle with a relatively good barrel and action may benefit from this procedure. A rifle that shoots a 5 shot groups of say 3 to 5 inches at 100 yards might benefit from the pressure lapping process. Please insure that it is the barrel and not you or the optics that is the problem.

The function of NECO pressure lapping is to polish the bore with a series of bullets with different grits on them. The system provides for a specific order of firing of the bullets to achieve this high polish. The results can be a reduction of as much as 200 or 300 percent in group size! Going from a 3 inch group to a 1 inch group is common. It will likely not make a rifle shooting a 1 inch group shoot a 1/4 inch group though.

Please understand that NECO pressure lapping accelerates the wear on the barrel by “sanding” it as it polishes the barrel. Custom barrels come hand lapped and it is not necessary nor recommended to use pressure lapping ammunition on them. Factory barrels and service rifle barrels can be very rough, even have burrs on them that will effect accuracy. But, the NECO fire lapping process will shorten the life of the barrel by an unknown amount. Of course if the rifle is not shooting well and you are faced with rebarreling, the NECO pressure lapping process is a lower cost possible solution.

We do not consider this “new rifle break in ammunition” either. That is not its intent. Please think carefully about your application. Check with us first!

NECO pressure lapping ammunition is sold in a complete kit of 50 rounds only. We will not break up a full set and do not endorse short cutting the system in any way. We offer no guarantees or warranties on results with the ammunition. Every rifle and barrel is different and reacts accordingly- different. 99% of the rifles that use NECO pressure lapping have remarked to us of the improvement in accuracy, ease of cleaning, and over all performance.

2. David Tubb’s FINAL FINISH System™ (SUPERIOR SHOOTING SYSTEMS)

We are pleased to again offer the David Tubb’s FINAL FINISH™ barrel treatment and the Throat Maintenance  treatment conditioning system in in loaded ammunition. We offer the 50 round kits only.

This is a different system than the NECO process for PRESSURE LAPPING.  This is a system that will work for all types of rifles with all types of barrels.  It cleans up barrels and the throat in a “break in” process that is not as aggressive as the NECO PRESSURE LAPPING process.

This process involves firing 50 loaded grit covered rounds through the rifle following a strict cleaning process.  There are 5 different grits on the bullets.  There are detailed instructions on how to follow the process and the results are generally excellent.  Of course there are always exceptions to any process and results may vary.  Over all, the reports have been great!

What you will see after shooting the David Tubb’s FINAL FINISH™ ammunition in your rifle is a smoother bore with less machine marks and a cleaned up throat.  If the machine marks, barrel defects, burrs, general flaws, or a bad or rough throat were causing the rifle to shoot poorly, this process should improve accuracy.

This process is safe to use on custom rifle barrels too. It may not be necessary with some custom barrels though. Call us for more information or our opinion if you need this system for your rifle.

3. 300 BELOW® CRYO TREATMENT-

We have successfully used this fine barrel and action treatment for many years. We found out the hard way that it must be the 300 Below Treatment too.  After using this treatment you will not see a physical appearance change to the barrel or the action in anyway.  It will not harm or change the appearance of the barrel or the action metal finish either. This treatment is not a mirale worker either-no treatment system is.  What it will do is;

a. Makes the barrel easier to clean- This happens 100% of the time after treatment.

b. Possibly improve accuracy and performance- Improvements are possible by as much as 100%! Yep 100% is possible on really poor performing barrels.  We have seen it ourselves. One thing for certain-this treatment will not make your rifle performance worse! The process is easy to do, very quick, and very very affordable. Call us if you have any questions.

More on this fine process is coming-

4. BARREL HARDENING SYSTEM (Salt bath nitriding)NOT AVALIABLE AT THIS TIME.

Our great friend David Tooley recently introduced us to the great process.  It can be done to any barrel new or used. We are still learning about it process but we have already treated two barrels on very high speed rifles with incrediable results. We are very impressed with it so far.  Call us if you want to know more.NOT AVALIABLE AT THIS TIME. We are working on establishing a relationship with someone we trust.
