Like they say… a picture is worth a thousand words! We have shot thousands of rifles on the range and even more different bullets. Here are a few targets from our testing. Nearly all testing is done at 100 yards for caliners smaller than 50 BMG. In some cases (like with VLD bullets) testing can be a longer ranges if necessary. Generall the 50 BMG is tested at both 100 and 300 yards.
We use a very high quality shooting rest system with very carefully fitted front and rear fixtures to help hold the rifle very steady. We use 36 and 40 power target scopes also.
It is important to know that we do not use Minute of Angle (MOA) when measuring the group size. MOA is actually larger than one inch and can allow a “loose” interpretation of the group size by some shooters. Like benchrest shooters we use the actually measured group size using “outside to outside” of the bullet holes and measurements with a quality digital caliper and subtracting the bullet diameter for the most precise measurement for group size. Nearly all groups shown are 3 shot groups.
